ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College women's lacrosse team hung in there with RPI on Saturday, losing 15-8 in a Liberty League game.
A pair of goals by
Caleigh DeCaprio had the game tied, 2-2, with just under five minutes gone. But the Engineers scored seven straight goals to make it 9-2 with halftime still 11 minutes away.
Back-to-back goals less than a minute apart by
Rachael Yoder and
Melissa Rosenthal made it 9-4, and after an RPI goal,
Dylan McDonald cut the deficit to 10-5 with less than 90 seconds left in the first half. That was the score at halftime.
RPI (7-5 overall, 4-5 Liberty League) put the game away by scoring the first three goals of the second half.
Melissa Rosenthal,
Gillian Adkins and McDonald each scored in the second half for Bard (4-9, 0-8), but it was too little, too late.
Abbey Salvon (Longmeadow, MA) led RPI with three goals and two assists, and Liz Brady (Bradford, MA) added one goal and four assists.
Bard got two goals apiece from Rosenthal, DeCaprio and McDonald, and single goals from Adkins and Yoder. Rosenthal led the squad with four ground balls;
Nicole Ellin collected five draw controls, and
Yinyin Doherty-Weinraub and
Jade Waring caused a pair of turnovers apiece.
Roxanne Rouskas made her first career start in goal, making five saves, and
Izabel Kickner made five saves in the second half.
Two games remain for Bard in the 2019 season. The Raptors will play at Vassar on Tuesday, then host Union on Friday. That will be Senior Day.
