ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - A big early lead didn't hold up, and the Bard College baseball team lost a non-league game to Plattsburgh State, 10-8, on Friday.

The Raptors jumped out to an early lead with four runs in the bottom of the first, keyed by a two-out, two-run bloop single by Esteban Rivera. Consecutive doubles by Dillon Daine and Chris Blake opened the third, followed by consecutive singles by Angelo Winings and Rivera, then a sacrifice fly by Spencer Checkoway, and Bard had a 7-1 lead entering the fourth inning.

Bard starter Elliott Goldstein wasn't exactly cruising, thanks to a few walks and several Bard errors, but he hadn't yielded a hit by that point. The visiting Cardinals started to chip away at the lead, however.

Their first hit of the game was an RBI double by Simon Alvarez (Poughkeepsie, NY) in the fourth, and that made it 7-2. An unearned run in the fifth made it 7-3.

In the top of the sixth, Plattsburgh plated three runs on RBI singles by Stephen Bryant (Center Moriches, NY) and Keller Kowalowski (Plattsburgh, NY), then cut the lead to 7-6 on a sacrifice fly.

An RBI single by Daine scored Robert Arciola, and Bard led 8-6 entering the seventh inning. But a two-out, two-run single by Jon Craft (Smithtown, NY) tied the game, 8-8, in the top of the seventh.

A single run in the eighth, on an RBI single by Patrick Bryant, and a single run in the ninth, on a single by Mike Onufrak (Mattituck, NY) put the game away for Plattsburgh. Senior P.J. Weeks (Bayport, NY) was the hero, yielding just four hits and one run while striking out seven in seven innings of relief.

Evan Matthews (0-1) took the loss in relief for the Raptors, who fell to 2-1. Rivera went 3-for-5, while Arciola, Daine and Blake finished with two hits apiece.
