ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College women's lacrosse team defeated Old Westbury, 19-3, in a non-league game on Tuesday night.
The game was scoreless for the first five minutes, then the Raptors (4-2) took charge, scoring five straight goals over a 13-minute span. After the visitors got on the board to make it 5-1, Bard closed out the first half with seven consecutive goals for a 12-1 halftime lead. Bard outscored Old Westbury 7-2 in the second half.
For the game, Bard got the better of the draw controls (15-8), ground balls (37-13), went 13-for-14 on clears, and outshot the Panthers 35-13.
Melissa Rosenthal led the Raptors with four goals, six assists, four draw controls, six ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers.
Caleigh DeCaprio and
Dylan McDonald added four goals apiece,
Casey Witte scored three times, and
Gillian Adkins scored twice.
Nicole Ellin finished with a goal and two assists, seven draw controls, four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Freshman
Emma Heffron scored once and collected four ground balls. Bard goalie
Izabel Kickner had the best game of her career, making nine saves on 12 shots on goal.
Old Westbury (1-5) got single goals from Hope Matthews (West Hempstead, NY), Natasha Treuman (Merrick, NY) and Yaritza Caraballo (Shirley, NY). Goalie Tazmeya Allen (Freeport, NY) made nine saves.
