GENEVA, N.Y. - The Bard College women's lacrosse team lost to 18th-ranked William Smith College, 19-4, in a Liberty League game on Saturday afternoon.
The Herons (3-2, 2-0 Liberty League) got off to a fast start, scoring the first five goals of the game in the first 10 minutes. An unassisted goal by
Melissa Rosenthal got Bard on the board, but the hosts scored five more times before halftime, and it was 10-1 at the break.
After yielding a man-up goal to start the second half, the Raptors (3-2, 0-1) scored three consecutive goals to cut the deficit to 11-4. Those came from
Caleigh DeCaprio,
Casey Witte and
Dylan McDonald.
William Smith didn't allow a goal over the final 20 minutes. The Herons got goals from 10 different players, led by Ellie Burns (Rochester, NY), who scored five goals.
DeCaprio finished with a goal and an assist for Bard.
Nicole Ellin collected four ground balls, Rosenthal caused three turnovers and Witte finished with three draw controls.
Izabel Kickner finished with 10 saves.
