Raptors defeated at RPI, 84-77

TROY, N.Y. - The Bard College men's basketball team lost to RPI, 84-77, in a Liberty League game on Friday night.

RPI, which entered the evening in the sixth and final playoff spot in the Liberty League standings, improved to 12-10 overall and 7-8 in conference play. Bard, which was in fourth place, fell to 12-10 and 8-7.

The game was won the second half. The Raptors limited RPI to 35 percent shooting from the floor to build a 12-point halftime lead, and it was a 17-point lead a few minutes into the second half. But the Engineers started heating up offensively, while Bard cooled off. The result was an 18-0 run which spanned just over four minutes, and turned an 11-point deficit into a seven-point lead with five minutes remaining in the game.

Bard cut it to four a minute later, but never got closer. RPI ended up shooting 65 percent from the floor in the second half, including 7-for-9 from the long distance. After scoring 24 points in the first half, RPI scored 60 in the second half.

Andreas Kontipidis (Sherborn, MA) led five RPI players in double figures with 23 points. Tom Horvat (Cranston, RI) added 16 points.

Bard got 18 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals from Alijah Rue. David Runcie contributed 15 points and six rebounds. Jelani Bell-Isaac hit a trio of three-pointers and finished with 12 points and four rebounds, and Armando Dunn added 10 points and eight rebounds.
