Men's volleyball topped at Sage

TROY, N.Y. - The Bard College men's volleyball team was defeated in straight sets Wednesday, falling to Sage College in a United Volleyball Conference match.

Set scores for the game were 25-7, 25-15 and 25-16.

After dropping the first set, the Raptors rebounded to start the second. Bard jumped in front, 3-0, before Sage was able to answer with three points of its own. After the two squads traded points to a 5-5 total, the Gators pulled ahead.

While the Raptors were able to keep things close for a bit, Sage proved too much midway through. With a 13-11 lead, the Gators proceeded to outscore Bard, 12-4, the rest of the way to win the second frame.

That momentum carried into the third set, as Sage sprinted to an early lead and the eventual win.

The Gators (6-8 overall, 1-3 UVC) hit .328 overall, including .632 in the opening set, and finished with 34 kills and 20 aces. Zackery Karl (West Monroe, NY) finished with 11 kills, eight aces and two blocks for Sage.

For the Raptors (1-10, 0-6 UVC), Jelani Bell-Isaac led the way with five kills. Nic Smith added eight assists and an ace, while Colin Schroeder collected four digs in the effort.

Up next for Bard is a home contest with UVC foe, St. John Fisher, on March 1st. The match is set to begin at 5 p.m. and you can follow it here.
