ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College men's volleyball team lost a pair of games Saturday afternoon, falling to Colby-Sawyer College and Massachusetts Institute of Technology in straight sets.
Set scores against Colby-Sawyer were 25-14, 25-17 and 25-13.
The Chargers (6-5) hit .394 on the day, including .562 in the opening set, to finish with 37 kills. Additionally, the guests outscored Bard, 19-2, in aces, as the points ended up being the difference in the win. Orlando Plagata (Los Angeles, CA) powered Colby-Sawyer with 14 kills, six digs and two aces. AJ Gnieski (Needham, MA) finished with 10 aces and 32 assists.
As for the Raptors, the hosts hit .207 overall and .400 in the first set, finishing with 21 kills in the effort.
Radoslav Skular recorded five kills and an ace, while
Joshua Han,
Jelani Bell-Isaac and
Dylan Frawley each added four kills apiece for Bard.Â
In the second match of the day, MIT topped Colby-Sawyer, 3-0. The momentum from that win carried into the final contest of the tri-match, as MIT outpaced Bard, 3-0, in a United Volleyball Conference match.Â
Set scores for that contest were 25-9, 25-14 and 25-8.Â
The Engineers (11-2, 3-2 UVC) hit .419 overall, including an incredible .706 in the final set, and finished with 37 kills and 18 aces. Tommy Ogeka (Manorville, NY) collected five kills, three aces and two blocks, while Nathan Wang (Saratoga, CA) added six aces and 12 assists in the win.Â
For Bard (1-9, 0-5 UVC),
Galen Willigan powered the offense with a career-high seven kills, as
Nic Smith led the team in assists (nine) and digs (five).
