ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - Despite a strong first half by the Raptors in their second conference game of the season, the Bard College men's basketball team fell at home to Hobart College by a 73-53 score Saturday afternoon.
The first half featured plenty of back-and-forth play, as the Statesmen (6-1, 2-0 LL) took control early and held a 12-3 lead six minutes into the game. But the Raptors (0-7, 0-2 LL) came charging back, scoring 13 unanswered points to take a 16-12 lead, with five different players scoring during the stretch. After trading baskets, Hobart went on an 8-2 run late in the half to take a three point lead, but freshman guard
Stefanos Psarras hit a jumper at the buzzer to get the Raptors within a point and send the teams to the locker room with the Statesmen holding a 24-23 lead.
Hobart started off the second half strong as well, going on a 7-2 run to build a six point lead early on. Bard was able to close the gap back to one point following back-to-back baskets from sophomore guard
Avo Sofroniou and freshman guard
Tyler Bruns, but the Statesmen answered with seven consecutive points to take an eight point lead with nine minutes remaining. Despite 10 second half points from freshman guard
Elliot Harris, the Raptors were unable to get back in the game, falling 73-53 to a strong Hobart squad.
Harris led the Raptors with 12 points to go along with six rebounds, while Sofroniou finished with 11 points, six rebounds and a pair of steals. Koulouris and Psarras both scored 10 points for the Raptors, who have just one game remaining before the winter break.
Bard will finish up the fall season with one last home game, as the Raptors host RPI in Liberty League play Wednesday, Dec. 11 at 7:30 p.m.
