MAHWAH, N.J. - After losing two of the three doubles matches to start the day, the Bard College women's tennis team rallied with a pair of tiebreaker victories in the singles portion of the event and held off Ramapo College, 5-4.
After
Katie Esposito's opponent retired at No. 1 singles, and
Isabella Sandora won at No. 6, Bard needed victories from Katie Shields and
Nico Gusac at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively, to pull it off. Shields defeated Francesca Chicherchia (Mahwah, NJ) 4-6, 6-3 and 10-2. Then Gusac fought back to beat Tamila Akhunova (Fair Lawn, NJ) 3-6, 7-5, 10-6.
Bard improved to 5-2; Ramapo fell to 4-3.
The Raptors get right back on the court on Sunday, hosting Vassar at 11 a.m. in a Liberty League match.
