ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College women's volleyball team fell short in a conference matchup with Skidmore College, falling 3-0 to the Thoroughbreds Friday afternoon.
The Raptors (7-17, 0-6 LL) kept things close early in the first set, trailing Skidmore (11-10, 3-3 LL) by a 6-4 score. But the visitors then went on a 9-2 run to take control and put the set away with a 25-10 victory to go up 1-0.
Bard fared better in the second set, hanging close with the Thoroughbreds and late in the set trailed 19-17. However, Skidmore was again able to pull away, winning six of the final seven points of the set to take a commanding 2-0 lead. The visitors got out to a strong lead in the third, taking an 11-4 lead and never looking back, putting the match away with a 25-11 victory in the third set to win a 3-0 decision.
On the match, junior
Mikala L'Hote led the Raptors with nine kills and two service aces. Senior
Maracela Talamantes added five kills and three digs, while classmate
Jewel Smith had 14 assists for Bard. Senior
Emily Anastasi had 15 digs on the day, leading the team.
The Raptors are right back in action Saturday, Oct. 26, when they finish up conference play with a matchup at Union College (N.Y.). Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
