ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College men's soccer team lost to 19th-ranked RPI, 4-1, in a Liberty League game on Wednesday night.
The Engineers (9-1-0 overall, 2-0-0 Liberty League) took charge early, producing a couple of shots in the first few minutes, but Bard (1-8-1, 0-3-0) settled in and the game remained scoreless well into the first half.
RPI took the lead in the 27th minute, when freshman phenom Joshua Gaudiano (Manhattan Beach, CA) ran onto a perfect, rolling cross from Andy Zhao (Novi, MI) and touched it past Bard keeper
Logan Leppo from close range. It was Gaudiano's eighth goal of the season.
A few minutes later, Paul Silva (Wayne, NJ) collected a rebound right on the doorstep after a great diving save by Leppo and deposited it into the goal for a 2-0 lead. That was the score at halftime, with the visitors holding a 9-0 edge in shots.
Gaudiano scored his ninth goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 65th minute, after an RPI player was taken down in the box, and Arik Duncan (Decatur, GA) made it 4-0 in the 71st minute off a long feed from Michael Harten (Merrick, NY).
About five minutes later, Bard had an opportunity when
Denton Lane was given a direct kick from about 25 yards out. His shot glanced off the hands of the RPI keeper and went in.
Leppo finished with 11 saves for Bard. The Raptors next play at RIT on Saturday. Follow it live right here.
