ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College women's volleyball team faced off with Vassar College Wednesday evening, dropping a 3-0 decision to the Brewers at home.
Bard (6-14, 0-5 LL) held a slim lead throughout the early stages of the first set, gaining a 10-8 lead. Vassar (5-16, 1-4 LL) responded with an 8-2 run to take command of the set, and closed things out by winning six of the final seven points to pick up a 25-17 win in the first.
The Brewers picked up right where they left off in the second set, building an early lead and controlling the set from start to finish. The visitors earned a 25-15 decision in set two to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match. In the third, Bard fought to an even score midway through the set. But Vassar was once again able to pull away, finishing things off on a 10-5 run to win the set by a 25-17 score and close out the match.
On the night, freshman
Macey Spearko led the Raptors with seven kills and picked up five digs. Senior
Maracela Talamantes and junior
Mikala L'Hote both had six kills, while Talamantes added 12 digs. Senior
Jewel Smith assisted on 21 Bard points and earned seven digs, while senior
Lia Taus had 11 digs on the night. Senior
Emily Anastasi led the way in digs for the Raptors, picking up 17 for the match.
Bard returns to the court Friday, Oct. 18, when they compete with Bates College at the Hall of Fame Invitational, hosted by Smith College in Amherst, Mass. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
