Bard beaten at Union

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The Bard College women's basketball team lost at Union College Wednesday night, 89-37, in a Liberty League contest.

With the loss, Bard dropped to 5-13 overall and 0-12 in the league. The Dutchwomen of Union College meanwhile, improved to 12-5 and 7-4.

Union jumped out to a 16-6 first quarter lead, as the Dutchwomen's league-leading defense stymied the Raptors from the get-go. Bard's offense continued to battle though, as the team responded to the defensive effort with 14 points in the second quarter.

Unfortunately for the Raptors, Union's offense was just as good as its defense on the night, as the Dutchwomen outscored Bard, 21-14, in the second.

At halftime, the score was 37-20 in Union's favor. In the second half, Union's offense continued to excel, pouring in 31 points in the third quarter alone to propel them to victory on the night.

For the game, Union shot 47 percent, while holding the Raptors to just 24 percent shooting from the field. The Dutchwomen also forced 16 turnovers and blocked eight shots in the win.

Individually for Bard, Christina Kiser led the way with 19 points. She also grabbed six rebounds and shot 11-for-14 from the free throw line. Katie Esposito added nine points and eight rebounds in the effort.

Jess Rylander chipped in five points and Caleigh DeCaprio scored four points for Bard.

Meanwhile, five players scored in double figures for the Dutchwomen. Nicole Conley (Scotia, NY) led the way with 19 points and 15 rebounds.

Up next for the Raptors is another Liberty League contest, as they host Vassar College on February 1st at 5 p.m. You can follow that game here.
