ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College women's volleyball earned a convincing victory Tuesday night, topping the Broncos of SUNY Delhi in straight sets.
Set scores for the contest were 25-17, 25-15 and 25-23.
After back-and-forth action pushed the first set to a 7-7 tie, the Raptors (5-9) proceeded to take over the frame. A long-scoring streak midway through the set powered Bard to a 19-11 advantage, as the hosts went on to take the set, 25-17.
In set two, Bard dug itself into a hole by dropping the first four points of the frame. The hosts quickly answered back however, scoring the next eight points in a row to take an 8-4 cushion. The Raptors rode that momentum swing to an 18-7 lead later on, before taking the set with relative ease, 25-15.
During the final set, things tightened up between the two squads. Luckily for Bard, the team saved its best hitting performance of the night for last, as the Raptors finished with a .250 hitting percentage and just five errors in the frame. Meanwhile, SUNY Delhi recorded its worst hitting of the match (.086), which allowed Bard to edge out the set, 25-23.Â
Long-scoring streaks and aces played a major factor in the Raptors' win Tuesday night, as the hosts managed streaks of six or more straight points during all three sets and piled-up 15 aces along the way.
Victoria Chou continued her impressive play, fresh off of her Liberty League Honor Roll nomination from last week. The senior co-captain finished with 10 kills, 12 assists and two aces in the win.Â
Mikala L'Hote tied a season-high with nine kills, while
Emily Anastasi added 23 digs and six aces in the win.
Jewel Smith led the Raptors with 17 assists.Â
For SUNY Delhi (6-4), Kristen Maslanka (Pine Island, NY) finished with nine kills and eight digs. Erica Prindle (Kingston, NY) added 20 assists and nine digs in the effort.Â
Up next for Bard are two more non-conference games, as the Raptors travel south to take on Brooklyn College and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy on September 29th in a tri-match. The contests are set to start at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. respectively.Â
