Raptors blank Purchase in final non-conference tune-up

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College women's soccer team dominated Purchase College Wednesday night, winning 6-0 in its final game before Liberty League contests begin this weekend.

With the win, the Raptors improved to 4-2-1 in non-conference play, while the Panthers of Purchase fell to 0-3.

From the opening whistle to the end of the match, Bard's offense had its foot on the gas pedal all night.

Dylan McDonald got things started in the sixth minute with a great individual effort. The forward dribbled the ball into the box from the left side and unleashed a shot toward the top left corner. The Purchase keeper had no chance at the ball and Bard led 1-0.

Just four minutes later, an own goal doubled the Raptors' advantage, as a free kick aimed toward Casey Witte's head was accidently headed in by a Purchase defender. In the 16th minute, Liberty League Rookie of the Week, Val Thomson, blasted a rocket shot into the top left corner from 40 yards out to put Bard ahead comfortably.

Julia Gibson made it 4-0 in the 39th minute, thanks to a nice through ball into the box from Felicia Flores. In the second half, Witte added a pair of goals to push the advantage to 6-0, where the scoreline finished.

On the night, the Raptors outshot the Panthers, 27-4. Abigail Stanley finished with the win and three saves in her 45 minutes of action. Tessa Greenhalgh completed the win with a save during the second 45-minute frame.

Amber Yarter (Albany, NY) collected 10 saves for Purchase in the effort.

Up next for Bard is the start of the Liberty League season, as the Raptors host RPI on September 22nd at 2:30 p.m. You can follow that contest right here.
