ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College women's soccer team opened the 2018 season with a 8-0 shutout of St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on Saturday.
The Raptors scored in the second minute and never looked back, outshooting the guests 31-6.
Freshman
Val Thomson got things going just over a minute into the game, when her diagonal pass into the box found
Dylan McDonald, and she scored to make it 1-0.
Giuliana Scanni blasted a 20-yard shot just inside the far post in the 17th minute as the Raptors continued to dominate.
A direct kick from
Hattie Wilder Karlstrom made it 3-0, and it was 4-0 when
Casey Witte cashed in on a bouncing pass from
Sarah George just before halftime.
In the second half with the Bears fading, Bard scored four times in the span of less than eight minutes.
Giordana Scanni collected a rebound and pushed home the first goal of her career,
Mikaela Martiros scored unassisted from the top of the box a couple of minutes later, and freshman
Felicia Flores scored back-to-back goals to make it 8-0 in the 72nd minute.
Reem Shaban (Brooklyn, NY) finished with 11 saves for St. Joseph's.
Abigail Stanley made four saves for the Raptors.
