ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - Junior Evan Richardson powered the Bard College baseball team to a 2-1 win Saturday afternoon against Rochester Institute of Technology in Game 1 of a doubleheader.
Richardson threw a seven-inning complete game, struck out 11 batters and allowed just one run on four hits for the Raptors.
RBI singles in the fifth and sixth innings by Jordan Myers and Lee Perry respectively, gave Bard all it needed on the afternoon to get past the Tigers of RIT in the opening contest.Â
The runs came after RIT got on the board first, thanks to a Jason Schultz (Liverpool, NY) RBI double in the fourth inning. After the run though, Richardson locked in for the Raptors and gave the Tigers no chance at a comeback.
On the other side, RIT's starter, Brian Reed (Rochester, NY), the defending Liberty League Pitcher of the year, picked up the loss. Reed also threw a complete game and struck out 11 batters, but gave up the two runs on eight hits in the effort.Â
Perry and Rory Maglich each collected two hits in the win for Bard.Â
In Game 2, things flipped upside down for the Raptors, as the team was bombed en route to a 13-3 loss.Â
Dillon Daine drilled an RBI single in the top of the first for Bard, but three runs in the bottom half of the inning put the Raptors in a hole going forward.
In the third inning, another RBI single from Daine cut the deficit to 3-2, but that was close as Bard would get the rest of the way.
The Tigers exploded for six runs in the fourth and four more in the sixth to pull away for Bard.
Daine added his third RBI single of the game in the fifth inning for the Raptors' final run of the day.Â
David Schlosser picked up two hits in the second game, which combined with his hit in the first game, gave Schlosser the most hits in Bard history with 147, passing Adam Carafotes.Â
Matt Lasky went 2-for-3 on the day with three runs and a walk, while Mike Pizzuto and Esteban Rivera each got a hit.
Stevie Branche picked up the win for RIT in Game 2. Micheal Duffy recorded the loss for Bard.
Up next is a second doubleheader between the two squads tomorrow (4/8) at Honey Field. First pitch is scheduled for noon and you can follow the games right here.Â
