ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College women's lacrosse team lost to St. Lawrence University, 16-8, in a Liberty League game on Saturday afternoon.
The game was tied, 3-3, with six minutes left in the first half, but St. Lawrence put up the final three goals - including two by Campbell Armstrong (New Canaan, CT) in the final 76 seconds - to take a 6-3 lead into halftime.
The Saints scored the first three goals of the second half to make it 9-3, but as it turned out, Bard wasn't done. Casey Witte and Dylan McDonald scored two minutes apart, and after St. Lawrence responded with two to make it 11-5, Bard cut the deficit to 11-7 on goals by Witte and Caleigh DeCaprio, the latter with 11:55 left in the game.
Back-to-back goals by St.. Lawrence's top scorer, Rachel Boghosian, killed Bard's rally, and the Saints improvedd to 4-8 overall and 2-5 in the Liberty League. Boghosian and Campbell finished with four goals apiece.
Witte scored four times for Bard (3-7, 0-6). Nicole Ellin had a goal, two assists and five draw controls. Melissa Rosenthal finished with three assists and five ground balls, and DeCaprio added a goal and an assist. Defensively, Hannah Baird had a couple of caused turnovers, and Kaylynn Tran made 14 saves.
Up next for Bard is a road game to take on Liberty League newcomer Ithaca on Friday. The Bombers were No. 15 in the latest coaches' poll.
