ELMIRA, N.Y. - The Bard College men's volleyball team lost to Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 3-0, in a United Volleyball Conference match at Elmira College on Friday night.
Set scored for MIT were 25-20, 25-22 and 25-10.
The Raptors never led in the first set, but they did rally from a 17-10 deficit to trim MIT's lead to 21-18. But a kill by Skyler Kaufman (Needham, MA) and a service ace broke Bard's run, and the Engineers won the first set, 25-20.
Bard jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the second set. MIT rallied to tie, then took the lead, 18-15. The Raptors were stubborn and battled back, eventually taking a 22-21 lead. A service error, an attack error and an ace by MIT turned the tide, and the Raptors lost the second set, 25-22.
MIT got out to a 15-4 lead in the third set and cruised, 25-10.
The Engineers got eight kills and three blocks from Cole Linnus (Wellington, FL), 17 assists from Michael Kulinski (New Lenox, IL) and seven digs from Parker Hall (Lomita, CA). MIT is 14-5 overall, 3-5 in the UVC.
Bard got eight kills (.313) from Jelani Bell-Isaac, 16 assists from
Josh Kim, and seven digs from
Tristan Kozul. The Raptors are 3-18, 0-8.
Bard will complete the UVC portion of its 2018 schedule on Saturday, taking on 10th-ranked Vassar at Elmira at noon.
