ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College baseball team wrapped up its opening weekend by earning a split of a doubleheader with Middlebury College Sunday afternoon.
The Raptors lost the first game, 7-0, and won the second 9-3.
The first game was all Middlebury from the get-go, as the Panthers scored two runs in the first and four in the second. Colby Morris (Ross, CA) was electric for the guests. He tallied nine strikeouts and allowed just two hits over six innings of work.
The Raptors meanwhile, got a great performance from Kyle Zigner out of the bullpen. The junior threw 5.2 scoreless innings of relief for Bard, allowing just four hits and no earned runs after starting pitcher Elliott Goldstein struggled early.Â
Matt Lasky and David Schlosser each collected a single in the loss.
In Game Two however, both the bats and arms came alive for the Raptors. The hosts collected 11 hits in the win, while limiting the Panthers to just four hits.
As a result, it didn't take long for Bard to get on the board, as a Jeff Goldrosen RBI groundout in the bottom of the first put Bard in front. The Raptors added two more runs in the second and three more in the fourth to quickly grab a 6-0 advantage.
Middlebury was able to cut the deficit in half in the top of fifth, but the Raptors answered right back in the bottom half of the inning with three more runs, pushing the lead to its end score of 9-3.
Julian Gonzalez finished with two RBI, while Rory Maglich, Jordan Myers, Lasky, Schlosser and Goldrosen each collected one RBI.
Lasky, Schlosser and Myers also added two hits in win. Esteban Rivera and Lee Perry also knocked in two hits for the Raptors.
Frank Ortega picked up the win for Bard. He went five innings, struckout five and allowed just one earned run on four hits. Colin Waters (Basking Ridge, NJ) collected the loss for Middlebury.
Up next for the Raptors is a spring break trip to Florida next week, as they will play six games from March 17-21.
