SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The Bard College women's basketball team hung in there with Union on Tuesday night, rallied from a double-digit deficit and was still threatening in the fourth quarter.
It took a special effort from a Union senior to keep the Raptors from picking up their first win of the year.
Jenni Barra (Loudonville, NY) scored 13 of her game-high 25 points in the fourth quarter, and Union held off Bard, 46-38, in a Liberty League game.
The game was tied at halftime, 14-14. A dozen of Bard's 14 points came off of Union turnovers, as the Dutchwomen were struggling with Bard's zone.
Barra followed up a three-pointer with a fast break layup, and halfway through the third quarter, Bard was down 10, 30-20. But a 10-2 run that bridged the third and fourth quarters put the Raptors right back in the game, as they trailed 32-30 with 7:59 left.
Barra keyed a 9-2 response and scored 10 of Union's next 12 points to secure the victory. Elly Vaughn added eight points and 11 rebounds. Union improved to 7-13 overall, 4-10 in the Liberty League.
Caleigh DeCaprio led Bard with 14 points.
Sarah Morris added nine points and five rebounds;
Katie Esposito had six points, 11 rebounds and four steals; and
Erin Kennedy chipped in with five points and 12 rebounds. Bard is 0-20, 0-13.
Up next for the Raptors is a home game against RPI on Friday night at 6. Follow it live right here.
