ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Bard College women's basketball team lost to 15th-ranked Rochester Institute of Technology in the Liberty League opener for both teams on Friday night.
Bard (3-2, 0-1 Liberty League) came out hot, matching the Tigers shot for shot in the first quarter. A jumper from
Katie Esposito cut RIT's lead to 13-12 with just over four minutes to go. A pair of three-pointers by
Caleigh DeCaprio were key to Bard's good start.
RIT (5-0, 1-0 Liberty) scored the final nine points of the first quarter, then really got things going in the second quarter, taking a 48-17 lead into halftime. Bard outscored RIT, 31-23, in the second half.
A pair of Bard freshmen led Bard in scoring.
Jess Rylander scored a career high 21 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and added three assists and three steals.
Olivia Couture also had a career high with 13 points, to go with five rebounds and three steals. She went 3-for-5 from beyond the three-point line. DeCaprio finished with eight points, and Esposito with six.
