ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College men's basketball team was defeated by SUNY Delhi Tuesday evening, 102-83, in a non-conference game at Stevenson Athletic Center.
The loss dropped the Raptors to 2-3 on the year, while the Broncos of SUNY Delhi improved to 3-2.
The night began brilliantly for the hosts, as the Raptors scored 14 of the first 16 points over the opening four minutes of action. After back-and-forth play midway through the opening half, Bard still maintained a 12-point lead up, 22-10, with 10:19 remaining in the frame.
SUNY Delhi wasn't fazed though, as the visitors slowly but surely started to chip away at the Bard advantage.
After tying the game at 25-25 with 5:38 to go in the opening half, the Broncos were finally able to grab their first lead of the night a couple minutes later on a layup from Mavenson Therneus (Spring Valley, NY), 31-30.
After trading points over the next few possessions, Bard regained the lead on a pair of
David Runcie free throws, 34-33, with 2:27 remaining.
However, at that point, something just clicked for SUNY Delhi.
Over the final two minutes of the half and the first 30 seconds of the second half, the Broncos outscored Bard, 12-0, to snatch the lead at 45-34, as they never trailed again in the game.
The Raptors continued to battle throughout the second half, but never got closer than eight points the rest of the way, as SUNY Delhi's run-and-gun offense lead to many scoring opportunities for the guests.Â
The Broncos finished the night shooting 49 percent from the field, including 58 percent in the second half. Bard meanwhile, shot 42 percent and outrebounded SUNY Delhi, 53-43, but the lost the turnover battle, 17-10.
Runcie and
Armando Dunn led the way for the Raptors as they each scored 21 points in the effort.
Justyn Rogers added 19 points, while
Alijah Rue chipped in 12 points, 13 rebounds and five assists.
For Delhi, it was the Justin Daoud (Yonkers, NY) show. Daoud finished with a game-high 31 points on 10-of-15 shooting, while adding 13 rebounds and two blocks. Four other Broncos finished with double digit points in the win. Â
Up next for Bard is the start of Liberty League play. The Raptors will travel to RIT on November 30th and take on the Tigers at 7 p.m. You can follow that game right here.Â
