ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College women's basketball team was defeated by Maine Maritime, 81-45, Sunday afternoon in a non-conference matchup.
The loss was first of the season for the Raptors, who dropped to 2-1. Meanwhile, the Mariners of Maine Maritime kept their perfect record intact, moving to 4-0.
The Raptors hung tough early on, keeping the deficit to single digits throughout the first quarter. In the second frame, Maine Maritime began to break the game open, as it grabbed a 28-14 advantage a couple of minutes in.
Bard continued to battle though, as the hosts scored 10 of the next 13 points to cut the deficit to 31-24 with 6:47 remaining in the first half. However, Maine Maritime wouldn't be denied on the afternoon, as the guests closed out the first half on a 17-0 run.
At halftime, the Mariners led 48-24, while shooting 65% from the field in the opening 20 minutes.
For Bard on the afternoon, freshman
Christina Kiser led the way, as she finished with 23 points and five rebounds.
Katie Esposito added nine points and
Caleigh DeCaprio tallied six points in the effort.
On the other side, Alayne Felix (Mahopac, NY) collected 21 points on 10-of-12 shooting and Megan McLean (Eliot, ME) added 10 points and six rebounds for Maine Maritime.
