Rue scores 32 in Raptors' loss to Hartwick

ONEONTA, N.Y. - Bard College sophomore Alijah Rue scored 32 points, but the Raptors lost to hot-shooting Hartwick College, 95-79, in Bard's season opener on Tuesday night.

The Hawks (1-1) hadn't led by more than seven for the entire first half, before they put together a 10-run over the last 3:22 going into halftime to push the lead to 17.

Hartwick made seven three-pointers in the first half and came out hot in the second half, pushing the lead to 24 with 10 more three-pointers in the first 10 minutes. When the Hawks finally cooled off from long range, the Raptors (0-1) made a 24-12 run which trimmed the deficit to 85-73 with 3:58 left in the game. In the end, Hartwick's 19-for-34 performance from beyond the arc was too much to overcome. Austin Haskell (Kirkwood, NY) led Hartwick with 25 points and nine rebounds.

Rue scored 19 of his 32 points in the second half, as Bard outscored Hartwick, 51-50, in the final 20 minutes. He added two rebounds, two steals and four assists. Three other players scored in double figures for the Raptors, led by David Runcie, who had 12 points and three rebounds. Armando Dunn had 11 points, four rebounds and four blocks, while Justyn Rogers finished with 10 points, nine rebounds and four steals. Zack Jacobs provided a spark with eight points off the bench.

Up next Bard will participate in the Bulldog Tip-Off Tournament at Dean College this weekend. The Raptors will play Rhode Island College on Saturday, then either Pine Manor or host Dean on Sunday.
