Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Bard falls to Vassar, 1-0

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College women's soccer team lost to Liberty League rival, Vassar College, 1-0 Wednesday night at Ferrari Field.

It was a tough day for the Bard College soccer programs, as the men also lost to Vassar just hours earlier by the same scoreline.

With the defeat, the Raptors fell to 5-3 overall on the season and 0-2 in the Liberty League. The Brewers of Vassar College meanwhile, improved to 5-2-2 overall and 1-0-1 in league play.

The lone goal of the match came in the 16th minute off the foot of Amanda McFarland (Redwood, CA).

Sara Seper (New Hyde Park, NY) sent a cross in from the right side of the field that found McFarland's right foot just inside the penalty box. McFarland one-timed the ball quickly and it bounced off the grass once before calmly rolling into the bottom left corner of goal.

Tessa Greenhalgh, who finished with six saves for Bard, had no chance to stop it.

The Raptors struggled to find their offensive mojo most of the evening, as the team was held to just three shots on goal. Their best chance though, came in 77th minute, when Giuliana Scanni nearly tied the game. A cross from Avalon Qian was settled by Zoe Peterschild-Ford and directed to Scanni. Scanni received the pass in the box and controlled it off her chest, before allowing it to take one bounce. Off the bounce, she gave it a little toe-poke and the ball flew toward goal before rattling off the crossbar back into play.  After a scramble near goal, Vassar was able to clear the danger away.

The Brewers finished the contest with seven shots on goal and had a second goal disallowed in the 73rd minute following a foul in the box. Vassar's keeper, Fiona Walsh (Hackettstown, NJ), finished with three saves and the clean sheet.

Up next for the Raptors is a home contest with the #6 ranked team in the nation, William Smith College. That game is scheduled for September 30th at 2 p.m. and you can follow it right here via Live Stats and Live Video.
