ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - One is good, two is great, but three is even better!
Senior
Avalon Qian tallied her first collegiate hat-trick for Bard College Saturday afternoon, as the team opened the season with a blowout victory over St. Joseph's College - Brooklyn, 8-0.
Caroline Gluck started the scoring in the 7th minute, as the junior collected a loose ball in the box following a Bard corner and struck it first time into the bottom right of goal. The goal was Gluck's first career goal.
Over the next 20 minutes, things were scoreless on both sides, until the flood gates opened for the Raptors.
It started with Qian's first goal of the afternoon, which came off a through ball from
Dylan McDonald. Qian allowed the ball to keep rolling toward net, then took a little touch to the right side and blasted the ball across her body to score into the left side of net, giving the keeper no chance to stop it.
12 minutes later, following a scramble in the box,
Julia Gibson added a gimme tap-in goal in the 41st minute to give Bard a 3-0 lead heading into the half.Â
Within 10 minutes of the second half starting, Bard's lead was up to 5-0, thanks to great finishes from Qian for her second and third goals of the contest.
Katie Hopper and
Giuliana Scanni each added goals for the Raptors and freshman
Mikaela Martiros recorded her first collegiate goal.Â
Over the 90 minutes, Bard outshot the Bears, 46-8, with 27 of those shots coming on goal.Â
In net,
Tessa Greenhalgh and
Sarah Morris combined for five saves and the clean sheet, while Lauren Quesda (Westbury, NY) finished the contest with 19 saves for St. Joseph's - Brooklyn.
Up next for Bard is a road game in Troy, NY, as the team takes on Sage College Wednesday at 7 p.m.
