BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Bard College men's tennis team lost to Sarah Lawrence College, 5-4, in the opener to the spring portion of the 2016-17 season on Sunday.

Sarah Lawrence improved to 3-0; Bard fell to 2-4.

The Gryphons took two of the three doubles matches, but Bard won two of the first three singles matches to tie the match up at 3-3. They split the next two matches before Arnie Welles (Greenwich, CT) outlasted Zayd Normand at No. 4 singles, 7-6 (7-4) and 6-1.

Satchel Fisher, Immanuel Zion and Nicholas George won at Nos. 1, 2 and 3 singles for the Raptors. Fisher and George won at No. 1 doubles.

Up next for Bard is a Liberty League match at RPI on Sunday, Apr. 9.
