Dominant second half leads Bard over Sage, 12-7

KINGSTON, N.Y. - The Bard College women's lacrosse team rallied past Sage College, 12-7 Saturday afternoon, thanks to some second half magic.

With only 25 minutes remaining in the game, down 6-4, the Raptors proceeded to outscore the Gators of Sage College, 8-1, the remainder of the way. 

The win moved the Raptors to 3-1 on the season and gave them their second come from behind victory in three days. Sage College meanwhile, fell to 1-4.

At halftime, Sage led 5-4 and added another to that total just five minutes into the second frame.

However, from there, the Raptors found their offensive swagger.

Over the final 25 minutes of the game, Melissa Rosenthal (three), Casey Witte (two), Nicole Ellin (two) and Caleigh DeCaprio tallied goals for Bard, as the women breezed to the final horn.

Turnovers and ground balls were nearly identical in the contest for each team, but Bard was able to take advantage on draw controls, as the Raptors won double compared to Sage (14-7).

The hosts were also much cleaner on clear attempts, succeeding on 75 percent of them to Sage's 56 percent. 

The Raptors had three finish with four points in the game, as Witte recorded two goals and two assists, Rosenthal had three goals and an assist and DeCaprio finished with four goals. 

Monica Koralus (Verbank, NY) led Sage with three goals and eight groundballs in the game.  

Kaylynn Tran finished with 11 saves for the Raptors in the win, while Jackie St. Pierre (Averill Park, NY) collected five saves. 

Up next for the Raptors, their Liberty League opener, as Bard hosts William Smith College on March 31st. That game is expected to begin at 4 p.m. and you can follow it right here.
