CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Bard College baseball team lost the final game of its Spring Break trip to California, falling to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 19-10, on Monday.
The host Stags (10-8) scored 18 runs in the first four innings, chasing Bard starter
Zach Hayes with 13 hits and 11 runs (nine earned) in three innings. The offensive outburst by CMS overshadowed what was Bard's best offensive performance of the young season.
Preston Gittelson went 2-for-3 with a three-run triple; sophomore
Chris Blake went 4-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored; freshman
Dillon Daine had two hits including a double, and sophomore
Rory Maglich drove in a pair of runs as the Raptors (1-5) banged out a season-high 14 hits.
Caleb LaRosa, a member of the men's basketball team who has just joined the baseball team in his junior year, doubled and scored in the ninth on a sacrifice fly by
Michael Uhle.
The Stags got four hits and three RBI from Nick DeGallier (Bellevue, WA), three hits and three RBI from Chase Eller (Los Altos, CA), and Trey Smith (Colleyville, TX) homered. It was the second straight day that CMS put up 19 runs - they beat Wesleyan, 19-4, the day before.
Hayes (0-1) took the loss; Brandon Louie (South Pasadena, CA) improved to 3-2 with the win.
