Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Bard downed by Union, 58-43

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College men's basketball team lost to Union College Saturday afternoon, 58-43.

Following yesterday's arduous win over defending Liberty League Champions, Skidmore College, the Raptors (3-18, 1-11 Liberty League) were tasked with another tough matchup, as they had to deal with the defending Liberty League Player of the Year, Union's Deshon Burgess (Scottdale, GA) .

While Bard actually did a fantastic job defending Burgess, holding him to just 11 points on 3-10 shooting, the team struggled in every other facet of the game.

The Raptors and Union College (11-8, 7-4 Liberty League), both opened the game sluggish offensively, following tough games Friday night.

Neither team hit double digits until more than half of the first half was gone. It was at that point that Bard went on an early run to take its biggest lead of the game.

Down 8-6, the Raptors rallied off seven straight points, punctuated by a three pointer from Chris Lockwood, to go up, 13-8, with 8:24 remaining in the opening frame.

Over the final minutes of the half, Union responded with a run of its own, outscoring Bard, 13-4, to take a 21-17 lead in halftime.

The second half opened with back and forth action, as each tried to build momentum. While Union started to build a bigger lead, it remained a single digit game for nearly the entire first 10 minutes of the half.

The Dutchmen finally began to pull away with 9:49 remaining in the game, thanks to a three pointer from Greg King (Ridgefield, NJ), that put the visitors up by double digits the rest of the way.

On the afternoon, Bard lost the three major battles, shooting percentage (37% to 32%), rebounding (39-29) and turnovers (12-9).

Lockwood led the way for the Raptors, scoring 13 points, while Harry Johnson added 10 points.

Union had three finish in double digits, Burgess with 11 points, Zachary Bounton (Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY) chipped in 12 points and Wade McNamara (East Lyme, CT) collected a double-double for the Dutchmen with 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Up next for Bard is a trip to Clarkson, February 10th at 8:00 p.m. You can follow that game right here via Live Stats.
