Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Second-half rally carries Raptors past Sage

ALBANY, N.Y. - The Sage men's basketball team thrives on creating chaos, and in the last couple of years against Bard, that has worked.

It didn't work on Thursday night.

The Raptors withstood the chaos, tuned out the testy home crowd, and got a monster game from sophomore Emmanuel Oyakhilome in an 83-64 romp over the Gators in a non-league game.

The game was decided during a three-and-a-half minute span that began midway through the second half. Bard trailed, 53-51, and it definitely looked like this one was going to go down to the wire. But an incredible 23-4 run put the game and the Gators away.

Bard's offense, keyed by Oyakhilome and David Runcie, suddenly caught fire. They each scored nine points during the run, and on the defensive end, Justyn Rogers had two of his three blocks to help keep Sage from responding.

It was Bard's best half of the season. In the final 20 minutes, the Raptors shot 64 percent from the field, making 6-of-14 three-pointers and 9-of-11 free throws.

Oyakhilome finished with a career high 24 points, and he added 15 rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks. Runcie had 20 points and eight rebounds, and Rogers had 19 points and seven rebounds to go with his three blocks. Bard's 53-39 rebounding advantage helped to counteract the turnovers caused by Sage's full-court trap, which they employed for 40 minutes.

Anthony Mitchell (Bronx, NY) led Sage with 17 points.

Bard will play one more game before winter break, at Hamilton on Saturday afternoon at 2. You can follow it live right here. Then Liberty League games will be all that remains in the 2017-18 season, beginning Jan. 5 at home against St. Lawrence.
