ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College women's basketball was defeated by Cazenovia College, 79-68, Saturday afternoon.
The Raptors began the day with a back-and-forth first quarter, as neither side lead by more than three points over the ten-minute frame. The battle continued into the second quarter, as Bard was able to build the biggest lead of the half on a
Caleigh DeCaprio layup, going up 21-17 with 5:39 remaining in the half.
The Wildcats of Cazenovia hung tight however, cutting into the Raptors' advantage and eventually taking the lead right before halftime.
Fortunately for the hosts, Cazenovia's momentum didn't translate into the second half, as Bard opened the third quarter with a 10-2 run to regain the lead, 41-36, less than three minutes in.
But just like in the first half, the Wildcats weren't going to give in that easily. The visitors responded to Bard's run with an 8-0 run of their own.
From there, Cazenovia held the lead the rest of the way, as foul trouble began to crush Bard.
DeCaprio fouled out with 3:13 remaining in the third quarter, while
Alexis Akingbade,
Sarah Morris and
Katie Esposito all fouled out in the fourth quarter.
Even with all the foul trouble, the Raptors continued to battle. The team trailed by just three points midway through the fourth, before the hosts were left with just four available players over the final five minutes.
Freshman
Erin Kennedy led the way for Bard, scoring 19 points and grabbing eight rebounds.
Elena LeFevre scored 14 points and collected nine boards, while Espositio added 12 points and Akingbade tallied 11 points.
Skylar Girard (Glen Falls, NY) finished with 31 points for the Wildcats in the win.
Up next for the Raptors is a trip to SUNY Cobleskill on November 21st at 7:30 p.m.
