ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - A 15-0 run that bridged the first and second quarters broke open a close game and the William Smith College women's basketball team went on to defeat Bard College, 78-33, in the Liberty League opener for both teams on Friday night.
The Raptors (0-9, 0-1 Liberty League) trailed 13-10 with just a couple of minutes left in the first quarter, but the Herons (7-3, 1-0) outscored Bard 22-3 in the second quarter and led 41-13 at halftime.
A total of twelve players scored for William Smith, led by Melanie Patterson (Vestal, NY), who had 23 points, and Natalia Baum (West Springfield, MA), who had 12 points.
Bard got 14 points and 13 rebounds from
Alexis Akingbade. Freshman
Caleigh DeCaprio added 10 points and two assists.
