Bard assistant named head coach of semi-pro Kingston Stockade FC

KINGSTON, N.Y. - Kingston Stockade FC, a local semi-professional soccer team, announced Wednesday that Bard College assistant men's soccer coach David Lindholm is their new head coach.

The Stockade play in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL), which is in the fourth division of the U.S. soccer pyramid, according to the organization's web site. They had a solid inaugural season, going 5-3-8 including 5-0-3 at home. Lindholm, who will still be Bard's assistant coach, replaces George Vizvary with Stockade FC.

"Stockade would like to thank Coach Vizvary for all his great work building a strong foundation for our club," Stockade Chairman Dennis Crowley said in a press release. "We're excited about Coach Lindholm building on top of that foundation and think he's the perfect person to continue our tradition of connecting the club with the community while putting a great product on the pitch."

After the untimely death of Bard head coach Andy McCabe in April of 2016, assistant Brandon Jackson was hired as the head coach, and he brought Lindholm to Bard this past summer. McCabe, Jackson and Lindholm shared a Div. III national title with Middlebury in 2007, Jackson as the player who struck the winning PK in the final, and McCabe and Lindholm as assistant coaches. Lindholm coached the goalkeepers, and he mentored Brian Bush to a 0.32 goals-against-average as the Panthers earned shutouts in 17 of 22 matches and went 18-2-2.

He was an assistant coach at Western New England previous to Bard, and in 2014 he was the top assistant at the University of Massachusetts.

From 2008 through 2014, Lindholm served in the front office for Major League Soccer clubs Chivas USA and Colorado Rapids. In his role as Director of Media Relations for the Rapids, he was part of the first team staff, attending all practices and matches and working closely with the club's president and technical director. During his MLS career, Lindholm worked alongside head coaches such as Preki, Martín Vásquez, Robin Fraser, Gary Smith, Oscar Pareja and Pablo Mastroeni.

Lindholm graduated from Middlebury in 2005 with a B.A. in American Civilization. As a player, he was a goalkeeper for the Panthers from 2001-04, earning 11 shutouts in 20 matches (17 starts). He played two seasons with the semi-pro Vermont Voltage of the Premier Development League, helping the club to consecutive regular-season division championships and postseason appearances.

He completed his Master's Degree in Sport Management at UMass in the spring of 2016.

"This club has done amazing things in a short time, and it is an honor to have been given this opportunity," Lindholm said. "I would like to thank Dennis and the entire Stockade staff for putting their faith in me, and I look forward to a great season."
