ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College men's volleyball team lost both of its matches Saturday afternoon, falling to Wilkes University and Ramapo College, 3-0, in each.
Set scores for the match against Wilkes University were, 25-14, 25-17, 25-20.
In the first set, Bard fell behind early, as Wilkes opened with four straight points. The Raptors couldn't get out of their own way all afternoon, allowing Wilkes ten easy points off errors in the first set alone. In the match, Bard committed 24 errors to Wilkes' 13.
The second set once again opened with four straight Colonel points. However, the Raptors would rally back this time. They cut the deficit to two points midway through the set at, 13-11, thanks to a kill from
Mahir Sheikh.
But Wilkes responded with a run of its own, scoring eight of the next nine points to take a commanding, 21-12 lead. The visitors won the set, 25-17.
In the third set, Bard opened by scoring the first point this time ... but then allowed Wilkes to score the next seven points immediately after. The Raptors never got closer than five points the rest of the way, as Wilkes emerged victorious in the first match on the day.
The Colonels outhit the Raptors, .284 to -.081, as John Pietrzyk (Glen Lyon, PA) led the visitors with 11 kills. Daniel Sales (Laflin, PA) recorded 26 assists to lead all players in the game.
For Bard,

Tyler Zowaski had 10 digs and Sheikh finished with 14 assists.
In the second match of the afternoon, Bard lost to Ramapo College, 3-0, by the scores of 25-17, 25-17 and 25-18.
Much like the Wilkes' game, Bard fell behind early to Ramapo. In the opening frame, the Raptors trailed, 5-4, before allowing the Roadrunners to score ten of the next 12 points, to take a 15-6 lead to essentially wrap up the first set.
The second set was a much closer affair for Bard, as each side went on mini rallies to start. The Raptors stayed within five points for most of the set, cutting the lead to just three points late in the match, 17-14.
From there though, things unraveled for Bard. The hosts allowed the next seven points to go to Ramapo, three of which came off Bard errors, to hand the set away.
In the third set, it was more of the same as the Roadrunners raced toward the finish line. With the game tied 4-4, Ramapo proceeded to go on a 7-1 run to put them up early, where they wouldn't relinquish the lead the rest of the way.
Bard was again outhit by the opposition, this time losing the battle, -.043 to .202. The Raptors were able to cut down on their errors in the second match of the day, but not enough to make a huge difference.
Adams led Bard with five kills in the match, while
Shane McDonald had 10 assists and
Josh Kim finished with seven digs.
Ramapo's Justin Feigeles (Bellmore, NY) finished with 12 kills and six digs. Mikhael Erushalimski (Fair Lawn, NJ) added 32 assists for the visitors.
