The first surprise came at No. 1 doubles, and looking back, it was probably the difference in the match.
Keillor Mose and
Satchel Fisher knocked off Matt Anastasi (Cornwall, NY) and Chris McGorty (Bellmore, NY), 9-8, by taking the tiebreaker 8-6.
Another doubles pairing, playing together for the first time -
Billy Kwon and
Zayd Normand - pulled a win out and No. 3, 8-6, and it was 2-1 in favor of Bard after doubles.
Anastasi and McGorty defeated Mose and Fisher and 1 and 2 singles, respectively, so it came down to the other four singles matches. Bard needed to win three of them to win the match.
Kwon prevailed 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2;
Immanuel Zion won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4; and
Nicholas George won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5.
Bard is 1-2; Mount St. Mary is 0-2.
The Raptors next play at Vassar on Sept. 24.
