ALFRED, N.Y. - Bard College's winning streak to start the women's soccer season ended with a thud on Saturday night at the Alfred University Kickoff Classic.
Host Alfred scored twice in the first half and blanked the Raptors, 2-0.
The Saxons (4-0) were aggressive early and had the possession advantage, and it paid off with a penalty kick opportunity in the 23rd minute. An Alfred striker was taken down in the box, and sophomore Emily Wright (Dallas, TX) converted to make it 1-0.

Chloe Ramos off a long pass from Kate Christiansen (West Babylon, NY).
Shots were 3-1 in favor of Alfred at halftime, but the Saxons also had five corners to Bard's one.
The Raptors (3-1) pressed forward early in the second half, but Alfred battled Bard to a stalemate in the final 45 minutes to secure a victory.
Total shots in the game went 7-4 in favor of Alfred; shots on goal were 5-3 for Alfred.
Ramos made one save for Bard, and
Kelsey O'Brien made two saves in the second half. Sammy Jo Shanahan (Valley Stream, NY) made three saves for the Saxons.
On Sunday, the final day of the tournament, Bard will face nationally-ranked Rowan University at 3:30 p.m. Rowan was ranked No. 15 in the preseason NSCAA coaches' poll, and No. 12 in the most recent d3soccer.com poll. The Profs are 4-0 and have outscored the opposition 29-0 so far.
