ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Bard College baseball team lost a pair of Liberty League games to Clarkson University on Saturday, 3-2 and 4-1.
Clarkson improved to 5-5 in the Liberty League and 8-12 overall; Bard is 3-7, 8-18.
The first game, scheduled for seven innings, went nine. Clarkson rallied with a run in the top of the seventh to tie it 2-2, then went ahead, 3-2, in the top of the ninth. Connor Martin (Baldwinsville, NY) doubled, and Connor Dietrich (Freeport, NY) tripled, pushing the go-ahead run across.
Ted Wilson (Lancaster, NY) pitched the ninth, inducing a game-ending double play, and Clarkson won, 3-2.
Bard's runs came on an RBI single by
JP Fisher in the second and a sacrifice fly by
Adam Carafotes in the third.
Alex Bunnell (3-1) took the loss in relief of
Steve Marotta, who gave up just two hits over 6.2 innings. The Raptors outhit Clarkson 8-5 but couldn't find the timely one they needed.
Wilson, a lefty, figured prominently in Game 2. He pitched a seven-inning complete game, scattering seven hits and striking out three. Brad Pearson (Clifton Park, NY) gave the Golden Knights all the runs they'd need with a two-run homer in the fourth.
Bard's run came on a sacrifice fly by Fisher in the fifth.
Zach Hayes (2-2) took the loss. Schlosser had two hits and finished the day 3-for-7.
