Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Raptors rally, beat Hobart at home for first time

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - It was like trying to endure a harrowing trip on a thrill ride at an amusement park. All you can do is grit your teeth, hang on, maybe scream a couple of times, and hope it ends soon.

The Hobart College men's basketball team came out firing on Saturday in a game Bard really needed - Bard needs them all now - making 10 of their first 11 shots, including five three-pointers, to build a 26-12 before eight minutes had elapsed.

The Raptors hung in there, cut the lead to seven by halftime, then pounced in the second half when Hobart went cold. The Raptors rallied and won going away, 74-64, for their second straight win and their first ever over Hobart in Annandale.

Bard battled to stay in it in the first half. The Raptors started heating up from the field at just about the time the Statesmen started to cool off. A 13-4 run cut Hobart's lead from 14 to five with 6:06 left in the first half, and it was 39-32 at the break in favor of the guests.

Hobart shot 52 percent in the first half, including 7-of-12 from beyond the arc, but Bard shot 54 percent and had a 16-9 rebounding advantage. It was now a game.

Hobart pushed the lead to 10, then went completely ice cold in the second half. The Statesmen missed 15 of their first 16 shots, including nine three-pointers, and Bard came all the way back and took the lead. It was a 21-4 run that took an agonizing eight minutes for Hobart, which just could not buy a bucket. It was surreal after seeing the way they shot it in the first half.

Bard took the lead, 47-46, with 13:21 left on a three-pointer by Zach Goodman, and although Hobart battled every inch from there, the Statesmen never regained the lead. Bard shot a season-best 55 percent from the field, while Hobart went 5-for-32 in the second half (16 percent) and made just two of their last 18 three-point attempts in the game.

Freshman Jamal Lucas (New York, NY) led Hobart with 25 points; classmate Colin Dougherty (Lockport, NY) finished with 15 after scoring 14 in the first half. Hobart is 9-12 overall, 5-7 in the Liberty League.

Sophomore DeVahnte Mosley scored 19 of his career-high 26 points in the second half for Bard, including 11-of-14 from the foul line. Harry Johnson was clutch again with 14 points and six rebounds. Goodman finished with 10 points off the bench, and the Raptors for the second straight day got key contributions from Armando Dunn (eight points, six rebounds) and Ezekiel Demasio (seven points, two rebounds). Brandon Cunningham battled foul trouble and fouled out with six minutes left, but he produced eight points and five rebounds in 25 minutes.

Bard is 8-14 overall, 5-8 in the Liberty League with three conference games left - two against RPI, one against Vassar.

The Raptors will be at RPI on Tuesday night at 8. Follow it live right here.
