Bard makes late push, comes up short vs. RIT

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Rochester Institute of Technology women's basketball shot 60 percent from the field in the first half to build a 20-point lead, then held off a Bard push in the second half to earn a 58-51 Liberty League victory on Friday night.

The Raptors (5-16 overall, 0-12 Liberty League) cut the deficit to 14 early in the third quarter, to 13 early in the fourth quarter, to seven with just over a minute left, but they could not get closer.

RIT came out hot and it was 21-7 after the first quarter. Bard took more shots in the first half, but RIT made more, and it was 39-19 at the break. RIT's Jessica Glaz (Rockaway Beach, NY) shot 6-for-11 with a pair of three-pointers and scored 14 points in the first half.

The Raptors were down 17 with 5:28 left in the game before rattling off 10 straight points to make it 56-49 with 1:11 left. Cori Okada (Fullerton, CA) made a driving layup on RIT's next possession to push the lead back to nine with 46 seconds left, and Bard lost by seven.

Glaz finished with 17 points, five rebounds, six assists, three steals and a block for RIT (16-4, 9-2). Tara Lynch (Green Township, NJ) and Okada added 10 points apiece.


Bard got 20 points, 14 rebounds and five steals from Tytravia Riley. Bianka Bell had 11 points, Sarah Morris had 10, and Alexis Akingbade had two points, 13 rebounds and two blocks.
