POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Vassar College women's basketball team broke open a tie game with a 24-7 second quarter en route to a 82-42 victory over Bard College in a Liberty League game on Wednesday night.
Vassar improved to 9-15 overall, 6-9 in the Liberty League. Bard is 5-19, 0-15.
Both teams came out flying in the first quarter, and it was 19-19 at the start of the second quarter. Both teams were shooting better than 42 percent at that point and it looked like it was going to be a high-scoring, close game.
Vassar led, 23-22, with 7:49 left until halftime, but the Brewers put together a 20-4 run. The lead was 17 at halftime, and it got as big as 42 in the fourth quarter at Vassar maintained its hot shooting and Bard did not. The Brewers finished at 47 percent from the field; after a 48 percent quarter, Bard finished at 25 percent.
Caitlin Drakeley (Woodbury, CT) led Vassar with 24 points and 10 rebounds.
Bard got 17 points and 17 rebounds from
Tytravia Riley.
Bianka Bell added nine points.
Bard has one game remaining in the 2015-16 season. Friday will be Senior Night for Riley and Bell, who will depart Bard as the No. 1 and No. 2 scorers in the program's history. The tip in the game against RPI is at 6. Follow it live right here.
