ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College men's basketball team rallied from a 15-point second-half deficit to tie the game with just under two minutes left, then went cold in a 79-74 loss to Union College in a Liberty League game on Friday night.
The Raptors, 6-8 overall and 3-2 in the Liberty League, were down four at halftime, then down 55-40 before four minutes were gone in the second half. An 18-5 run cut Union's lead to 60-58, and suddenly things got a lot more interesting.
Union held a slight lead from there, no bigger than five, until a layup from
Emmanuel Rainey tied it at 72-72 with 1:51 left.
William Hython scored five straight points for Union - three free throws and a layup - while Bard came away empty on three consecutive possessions. A layup from
DeVahnte Mosley trimmed the lead to 77-74, but there were eight seconds left, and it turned out to not be enough time. It snapped Bard's three-game winning streak against Union.
Union (5-8, 3-3) won the game at the foul line, shooting 40 free throws to Bard's 16. The Dutchmen made 28, Bard made 11.
Deshon Burgess (Scottdale, GA) led the visitors with 31 points, while Hython finished with 21 points and 14 rebounds.
Bard got a career-high 31 from Mosley, who went 12-for-14 from the field and 6-for-7 from the foul line. Rainey added 13 points, while
Brandon Cunningham chipped in with 10 points and eight rebounds.
Bard next hosts defending league champion Skidmore on Saturday afternoon at 4. Follow the action here via Live Stats or Live Video.
