Bard bats quiet in doubleheader with Union

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College baseball team was shut down by a pair of solid pitching performances on Friday.

Union swept both ends of a doubleheader with Bard, 4-1 and 11-0, yielding just nine hits and one run through 16 innings in Liberty League games.

In the first game, sophomore Jake Fishman (Sharon, MA) gave up four hits, one run and struck out 11 in a seven-inning complete game. The Dutchmen (8-5 overall, 4-2 Liberty League) got enough offense in the top of the first when Jamie Faber (Cohasset, MA) homered and Eric Egan (Latham, NY) hit an RBI triple.

Zach Hayes (1-2) had an effective start for the Raptors, giving up four runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and no walks. Bard pushed it's only run across in the sixth, when JP Fisher singled, stole second, and scored on an RBI single by Adam Carafotes.

In the second game, Ryan Kuchar (Merrimac, MA) scattered five hits over seven innings, walked three and struck out four to improve to 2-0. The Dutchmen got to Bard starter Alec Montecalvo with two in the second, two in the third and one in the sixth.

Egan went 3-for-5 with three RBI, Fishman drove in three runs, and Faber went 2-for-4 with another home run.

For Bard, Matt Lasky went 2-for-4.

The Raptors (3-14, 1-9 Liberty League) will host Union for two more on Saturday, due to unplayable field conditions in Schenectady. First pitch is at noon; you can follow both games via Live Stats or Live Video right here.
