TROY, N.Y. - The Bard College baseball team lost a pair of Liberty League games at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Saturday afternoon, 5-3 and 13-1.
Bard jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first game on a two-run home run in the first inning by
Alec Montecalvo, and a second-inning triple by
Nick Kifyak followed by a groundout. But RPI starter J
ared Jensen (Kingston, NY) settled down from there. He threw a complete game and went 3-for-3 at the plate, including the go-ahead home run, to lead the Engineers to a 5-3 victory.Adam Carafotes went 2-for-3 with a run scored and Montecalvo went 2-for-3 with a run and two RBI. Zach Hayes had another effective start, working 5.2 innings with no walks and two strikeouts.
In the second game, RPI broke open a 4-1 game with five in the sixth and four in the eighth. Thomas Desmond (Alamo, CA) went 2-for-5 with four RBI. Junior Greg Echeverria (Longmeadow, MA) worked out of trouble all day, giving up just one run on nine hits with eight strikeouts. He also picked off two baserunners.
Jack Hawke went 3-for-4 with a double and David Schlosser had a pair of hits for the Raptors in the second game.
RPI is 12-8, 11-3 in the Liberty League. Bard fell to 3-18, 1-13.
The weekend series moves to Annandale on Sunday. First pitch for the doubleheader is at noon at Honey Field. Follow both games via Live Stats or Live Video.Â
