Early run lifts William Smith past Bard, 55-42

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College women's basketball team was held scoreless for the first eight minutes of the game and never recovered in a 55-42 loss to William Smith College in a Librerty League contest on Friday night.

The Herons (4-17 overall, 3-10 Liberty League) built a 15-0 lead during that stretch and rolled to a 30-14 halftime lead on the strength of a 27-7 rebounding advantage and 14 points and six rebounds from sophomore Gabrielle Eure (East Syracuse, NY). Sixteen of William Smith's 30 first-half points came in the paint.

The Raptors cut the deficit to 11 early in the second half but never got closer. The Raptors are 4-17 overall, 0-13 in the Liberty League.

Eure led the winners with 16 points. Chloe Hayter (Lititz, PA) added 12 points and eight rebounds, and Melanie Patterson (Vestal, NY) chipped in with 10 points.

Bard got 17 points from Bianka Bell. Lexi Akingbade led the Raptors with eight rebounds.

Up next for Bard is a Liberty League contest against RIT on Saturday at 2. Even though Bard has one home contest remaining next week, Senior Day will be celebrated Saturday for Liz Freud and Joanna Regan.
