ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College men's volleyball team lost to Southern Vermont College, 3-0, in a Liberty League game on Tuesday night.
Set scores for Southern Vermont were 25-16, 25-15 and 25-17. The Mountaineers are 5-1; Bard fell to 2-9.
Southern Vermont hit .414 in the first set and it wasn't close. Bard trailed 13-10 in the second set before the visitors rattled off a 12-5 run to end it. In the third set, Bard fought back and it was tied, 15-15. But with Scott Fitzgerald (Queensbury, NY) serving, the Mountaineers scored the next five straight points and went on to the sweep.
Senior Joey Dighton (Riverside, CA), who entered the game as the national leader in hitting percentage, had 12 kills and hit .556. Kevin Walley (Pico Rivera, CA) had 10 kils, Herson Canta (Lagunitas, CA) had 31 assists, and Tino Escovedo (Fresno, CA) led the winners with 16 digs.
Bard got eight kills and nine digs from
Alex Adams, 19 assists from
Joseph Stier, and 10 digs from freshman
Tyler Zowaski.
Troy Robertson chipped in with four kills and two blocks.
