Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Raptors' furious rally fades, they fall at Utica, 58-49

UTICA, N.Y. - After playing its worst half of the season, the Bard College women's basketball team came out flying in the second half, opening the third quarter on a 15-2 run.

A game they were out of in the first half was suddenly tied.

In the end, 27 Bard turnovers become too much to overcome. The Raptors lost at Utica, 59-48, in a non-league game on Saturday afternoon.

Utica (3-4) used pressure and traps to force 16 first-half turnovers. It was 17-9 after one quarter and 30-17 at halftime. The Raptors looked lost and it didn't look like much of a game.

But after scoring 17 points in the first half, Bard (3-4) scored 19 in the third quarter and looked very sharp. Bard tied it 32-32, and it was tied again, 36-36, with 1:15 to go in the third quarter.

Utica scored the final five points of the third quarter, then outscored Bard 17-13 in the final quarter, again using pressure, to pull it out.

Ashelynn Babb (Lynn, MA) led the hosts with 12 points.

Bard got 20 points from Bianka Bell, 13 points and 21 rebounds from Tytravia Riley who was hampered by foul trouble, and 10 points from Elena LeFevre.

Up next for Bard is a non-league game at Mount Saint Mary College on Thursday. Live Stats and Live Video are available.
