Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Riley leads Raptors past CCNY, 50-43

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - On a night when both teams struggled to score, someone or something was going to have to make the difference.

That someone was Tytravia Riley. And that something was a 59-33 rebounding advantage.

The Bard College women's basketball team held off City College of New York, 50-43, in a non-league game on Wednesday night. The Raptors improved to 3-3; the Beavers fell to 2-2.

Riley finished with 20 points and 22 rebounds to lead the winners, but just like everybody else out there, she had a poor-shooting night (5-for-19). Both teams shot around 27 percent, and CCNY went 4-of-22 from beyond the three-point arc.

So that made for a not-very-pretty but exciting game, because it was close down the stretch.

The Raptors had an 11-point lead in the second quarter, but at the break, it was 27-22. CCNY scored the first seven points of the third quarter and took the lead. It was tied three times before the quarter ended, and Bard led by three, 39-36 entering the fourth quarter.

CCNY cut the deficit to 41-40 with 8:02 to go, then went the next six-plus minutes without a point, as Bard pushed the lead to 47-40 at the 1:27 mark. Some solid foul shooting down the stretch sealed it; the Beavers scored just seven points in the fourth quarter.

The visitors were led by senior Tiara Brown (Orangeburg, NY), who finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Aside from Riley, Sarah Morris had nine points, Bianka Bell had eight points and seven rebounds, and Alexis Akingbade added six points and nine rebounds. Everyone who played for Bard had at least three rebounds, and Bard collected 21 second-chance points to five for CCNY.

This was Bard's last home game of the semester, and the Raptors have three non-league games remaining before winter break. It'll start Saturday with a game at Utica College at 2 p.m. Follow it here via Live Stats or Live Video.
