GENEVA, N.Y. - A 12-3 run early in the second half gave the William Smith College women's basketball team a cushion, and the Herons went on to hold off Bard College, 70-57, in a Liberty League game on Saturday afternoon.

Bard (4-10 overall, 0-6 Liberty League) cut an eight-point halftime deficit to two, 37-35, by scoring the first six points of the second half. William Smith responded with a 12-3 run, and although Bard trimmed the lead to 50-43 with 9:43 left in the game, the Raptors could not get closer.

The Herons (3-10, 2-3) were clearly determined to shoot three-pointers on Saturday, as almost half of their shots - 30 of 61 - were from beyond the arc. Eight of them went in, and it proved to be the difference in the game.

Senior Chloe Hayter (Lititz, PA) led the Herons with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Melanie Patterson (Vestal, NY) added 14 points.

For Bard, Tytravia Riley had a big game with 17 points and 15 rebounds. Bianka Bell also had 17 points, and she grabbed eight rebounds. Liz Freud added eight points and five rebounds.
